MARY GAUTHIER at Hen and Chicken Wed 6 November 2019 from 7.30pm

Mary Gauthier - International Artist of the Year - UK Americana Awards 2019, with special guest Jaimee Harris

Mary Gauthier is one of the most important and acclaimed songwriters in the world. The author of portfolio of extraordinary confessional songs, deeply personal, profoundly emotional pieces ranging from “I Drink,” a blunt accounting of addiction, to “March 11, 1962,” the day she was born - and relinquished to an orphanage - to “Worthy,” in which the singer finally understands she is deserving of love.

Her last record, Rifles and Rosary Beads, was described by Rolling Stone as “Not only one of the most arresting American singer-songwriter records in recent years, but one of the most vital pieces of art to come out of two wars" and according to LA Times "You'll be hard-pressed to hear a more powerfully moving work than Rifles & Rosary Beads - this year, or any other."

Rifles & Rosary Beads was named Best Album of The Year at International Folk Music Awards.

Special guest Jaimee Harris is described as playing Real Americana Music from Austin Texas and she's poised to become the next queen of Americana-Folk, a slightly edgier Emmylou Harris for the younger generation.

The Hen is a fan of real ale & takes pride in pouring a great pint. Depending upon the season there are always three or four real ales on the bar, these tend to be local to the region with the guest ale changing every two weeks. The Chickens are Cask Marque accredited & have so far achieved 100% each year.

Famous stone-baked 12” pizzas are made from organic flour and you will often see our very own ‘Attila the hen’ kneading away to create their own dough. If you come down & visit on a Monday you can enjoy 2 fantastic pizzas for just £11 (lunch & dinner).

As the locals all know too well here at The Hen, the main man in charge of keeping all the chicks in check is Henry the pub cat who you will often see sat on his throne in the main bar.

Upstairs is really where the magic happens. Normally it plays host to a wonderful array of Comedy nights. you may be lucky enough to catch top names warming up for huge tours in this cosy room. Every now and then they also do music events.
